For some this blog is old news, for the others… say hello to The Sartorialist. Scott Schuman photographs stylish and just plain good looking people on the streets. I won’t go into the debate about whether or not these photographs are posed/setup/etc (they definitely are) but either way there is just a lot of interesting photos to browse through.
Well produced video presenting Gant Rugger’s Fall / Winter 2010 collection. I love this style of commercial / advertising product that is not in your face and gives more of a story to the brand.
When out on a shoot or in conversation about my photography I always get, in some form, the question “So did you study that in school?” and I never know how to reply. Well the answer is no (I majored in Communications). So how did I learn the trade of photography? Outside of just pure experience (which is 95% of it) I can honestly say I have a degree in photography and design in the school of The Internet. From simply just Googling a question I had to posting on forums, the internet is the best resource for a beginner at any discipline.
With that being said a very good tutorial for beginners in photography is a disc by photographer Joey L. There are some very practical lessons in this DVD that I even now find refreshing, but what truly separates this tutorial from others is that it is tasteful – and simply put Joey get’s it. There is a a lot of bad advice on the internet – so allow me to help filter it just a little bit.
But don’t take my word for it… see for yourself Sessions With Joey L.

Here’s a batch of select photos from my favorites on Flickr. A lot of these have a very cinematic feel to them which I am discovering is very big inspiration for my photography.

If or I should say when I get a film camera and learn how to use the thing… these are the photos I have in mind of taking! So good. Love how it handles steep contrast in direct sunlight. They don’t make ‘em like they use to.

David Byrne is a genius, the Talking Heads are one of my favorite bands… check out this ridiculous interview with David Byrne by David Byrne, SO funny.
Once your addicted to Talking Heads then you will need to go get their live DVD called Stop Making Sense, which is directed by Academy Award winner Jonathan Demme who has done movies like Silence of the Lambs. One of my favorite live concert DVD.

Purchased these dress shoes a couple months ago at a thrift store for $2.99 and they quickly became my favorite pair of brown shoes. They were very broken in but worked as a dress shoe mixed with pair of selvage denim and button. After wearing them for a month or so the sole gave up and developed a small-medium size hole. Time to allow a cobbler give them some love.
I took them to a cobbler in Fairway to a place called Shoe Express Shoe Repair where an older gentleman promised to bring some life back into the shoes – and that he did. Beautiful KC branded soles, Vibram heel and beautiful shine that brought out some darker cherry reds from the leather….
