Vintage Mug Shots

Written by Ryan Strong filed under Photography.

Apparently if you were arrested in the late 1920′s you were given a proper mug photo shoot! Some of these amaze me. It looks so setup and poised like a fashion studio shoot. You have the prop chair, maybe a cigarette for some grit, confident poses with arms crossed hands in pockets, hats/accessories… these photographers made these criminals look good.

July & Brion

Written by Ryan Strong filed under Entertainment, Music.

One of my favorite directors, Miranda July, and one of my favorite producer/composer, Jon Brion, are collaborating on July’s new film The Future.

Here is an excerpt of the storyline…

When a couple decides to adopt a stray cat their perspective on life changes radically, literally altering the course of time and space and testing their faith in each other and themselves.

July who is best known for Me and You and Everyone We Know and Jon Brion who is best known for his music work on Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and co-producing Kanye West’s Late Registration

Maurice Ravel

One of my favorite composers, Maurice Ravel. What is really amazing to me about Ravel is that some of his best pieces range from solo piano to full symphony pieces. A true genius. I will probably post other songs of his from time to time but below is one of my favorite pieces from his piano works entitled Gaspard de la nuit – Ondine.

There’s no better boot for the fall and winter seasons in the Midwest then the classic L.L. Bean boot. They are modestly priced at L.L. Bean, or if you don’t mind a used pair, eBay has a load of them!

Christian Schmidt

Commercial photographer Christian Schmidt creates work of art, not photographs. While they are photographs there is so much attention to detail, color and composition that goes into his photographic pieces that simply is more than the snapping of a shutter. Mr. Schmidt’s work is what compelled me early on in my photography trade to dig deep and truly research the advantages of the digital dark room.

Deontologically Correct

Aimée Hoving‘s documentary portraits of some of Geneva’s best lawyers in their offices is so brilliantly executed in such a way that is neither beautiful nor ugly. It’s so forward that you really have to ask yourself “Wait… what am I looking at?”. Amazing.
